Defending OIA champs seek repeat of past season

Varsity Baseball

It was an exciting season in 1976 when the McKinley Tigers Baseball team made history by taking the OIA championship, the first major championship ever for MHS.

The team made up of mostly underclassmen kept on going after winning the Honolulu District Championship. They took the East and the OIA along with the title of state runner-up.

Most of the team was back this year under new coach, Paul Valentine, along with a few new surprises in the juniors and sophomores.

Early predictions put the Tigers in the running again along with Roosevelt and Kaimuki in the Honolulu District.

The Tigers started off the season right with a victory over Castle, the reigning Windward champs, 2-1. The Micks also rolled over Farrington, 8-3.

As the yearbook went to press, the Tigers were confident to do well again this season.
