Girls' Track

The Black and Gold 1977

Enthusiastic tracksters break school records in preseason meets

Girls' Track

In its fourth year of existence, the McKinley Girls' track team raced to another good season.

During the first three practice meets of the year, the girls either tied or broke school records 22 times.

Meets were against Roosevelt, Kaimuki, Kailua, Kalani and Kaiser. The state meet was run at
Punahou on April 28-30.

Outstanding runners for the girls team were freshmen Claire Leong in the 100 and 200 yard dash, sophomore Elena Onaga in the 440-yard dash, the high jump and the 110 yard low hurdles, and senior Becky Russell in the shot put and discus throw.

One reason for the girls' success this year has been good coaching. The coaches are Tom Marks, Lori Young and Sheila Mun.
