Ethnic, Religious ides inspire fellowship

The Black and Gold 1977

Ethnic, religious ideas inspire fellowship

Though only in their second year of existence, the French/Spanish Club had a very busy year.
One activity which members enjoyed the most was a picnic at the Ala Moana Park on Saturday,
January 29. There was a lot of good fun and games.

Similar to all other MHS clubs they contributed their time and efforts in manning the stew
booth at the annual carnival.

In March, the food committee gave a most interesting demonstration on making crepes, a French Delicacy.

Working hard on practice sessions, the French/Spanish club prepared their part of the
traditional May Day festivities Friday, April 29th.

Officers for the coming year were elected at the May 26 general meeting. Club advisers were
Misses Jean Matsuo and Sharrie Lee.

Dedicated to the enrichment of Chinese culture, the Chinese Student Club sponsored various
social gatherings to get more acquainted and learn more about their native country.

Advised by faculty member Mr. Stephen Choy, the club got together at a picnic at Hanauma Bay in November, manned a booth with the Guitar Club at the Chinese Cultural Event in February, and hiked the Aiea loop trail in March.

Although getting a late start, the Mandarin Club involved themselves for several worthwhile
projects. Advised by Mrs. Nancy Au, they began the year by donating a $100 monetary gift to the
Palolo Chinese Home and giving $50 to the Star Bulletin's Good Neighbors Fund at Christmas. In
April, along with the Future Homemakers of America, they baked cookies for the Junior Prom. They later joined the Korean Club in an around the island trip and helped Roosevelt's Mandarin Club at the Roosevelt carnival in March.

Breaking up into smaller units called action groups was organized this past year by the
executive board of the McKinley Christian Fellowship. During each session, advised by Mrs. Rose Ho, everyone further learned about God's work and to apply it to their personal lives. Members took time each week to share feelings and get to know fellow Christians.

A Halloween party at Waipuna condominium on October 22, Christmas caroling at Kuakini Old Folks Home, working in the hot dog booth at the annual carnival, picnicking at Kapiolani Park and a clean up of McKinley's campus on March 14 were some of their numerous activities.
