Student Council

The Black and Gold 1975

Student Council Execs Push for Better Communication Channels

This year, the seven member student council executives worked industriously for more effective communication channels and involvement of the entire student body, doing as much as possible for the school.

Every Tuesday night, the execs held a meeting in the student council room. Discussed were school related topics such as the 1975-76 class schedule, activities, district board meetings, state camps, conference, a calendar of events a revision of the constitution. Present at these meetings were the four student council officers, the senate president, the academic chairman, and the social committee chairman.

Meetings were conducted by the president who was also a liaison for the student government to the Honolulu District Board meetings. The vice president helped with a  new acculturation program for immigrant students. Keeping track of all that went on, the secretary took notes while the treasurer took care of financial matters and worked with Mrs. Haruyo Kodani, school accounts clerk.

Special committees were under the social committee chairman. The senate president relayed information to the senators (ten from each grade level) and the academic chairman took care of things such as the constitution revision.

Advising the board members was the student activities director Miss Jean Matsuo. She worked with the execs to formulate a closer knit McKinley.
