JV Baseball

The Black and Gold 1976

Inexperienced Pitching, Team Defense Foil Successful JV Tiger Nine Season

Inconsistencies in pitching and team defense were the major obstacles to a successful JV baseball season, as forecasted earlier by head mentor Ronald Kishimoto.

Farrington capitalized on mental and field errors by the Cubs late in the game and scored six Governor runs to break a 2-1 McKinley lead wide open. After a tight 2-2 deadlock, the Mick defense yielded three runs to a victorious Kaimuki nine.

Lack of timely hits plagued the Cubs against Kalaheo and Kaiser. McKinley failed to tally in one-out, bases-loaded situations, accounting for both downfalls.

Turning the tables, McKinley, after trailing 5-2, displayed their bunting and base
running proficiencies to override Roosevelt. The Cubs scrambled for two runs to force
Kalani into overtime. The Micks treat soon ended as darkness called the game after eight innings, resulting in a draw.

Seven Castle runs severed a 2-0 Mick lead to deal the Cubs their fifth loss. Numerous Kailua errors and Kelly Sur's outstanding pitching produced a season ending victory for McKinley, rounding out a 2-5-1 record.

Six returning jayvees will form the foundation for a solid infield next year.
