Pep Squad

The Black and Gold 1976

Pep Squad Generates 'Tiger Power' for The Black and Gold

Tiger Power for the black and gold was amply generated by the 19775-76 VARSITY PEP SQUAD as they actively supported the Tigers at various OIA sanctioned sports events. The cheerleaders, songleaders, drummers and pep coordinator gathered near and around the room of adviser Miss Gaile Sykes for frequent meetings and practices.

Being on the varsity squad was more than selling ribbons and cheering at football games, the squad also coached class pep squads, painted banners to publicize upcoming activities and produced cheerbooks for cheering sections to follow.

With the football games at school athletic fields and the new Aloha Stadium in Halawa, the "spirit bus" was organized by the pep squad to encourage McKinleyites to "join in the fun" by riding the bus to games.

Because of the absence of the cheerleading contest, the squad attended the International Cheerleading Foundation Clinic in July along with other high schools to learn cheers originating from the mainland...among the unending list of activities of the Tiger squad.
