The Black and Gold - Final Thoughts

The Black and Gold 1976

As the Bicentennial draws to an end, many have been enriched by new friendships, experiences and a greater awareness of our heritage. This has truly been a remarkable year as the intermingling of the past and present has given us insights into the future.

The late Governor John A. Burns said in his farewell address to the legislature in 1974, "Let us never forget that in human endeavor, nothing is beyond reach...let us continue striving for ever
higher goals to continue dreaming the impossible dream, to pursue what is unattainable today to make it tomorrow's reality..."

It seems that only yesterday, the moon was just a horizon that man had been trying to conquer for past generations. Today, we have seen this goal realized--suddenly, the unreachable stars, like our dreams, don't seem so far away.
