Both of McKinley's semi-finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) went on to become finalists, with one also becoming a Betty Crocker Homemaker of the Year Nominee. Three other seniors received National Merit Letters of Commendation and another became a winner in the Bicentennial Essay contest.
Last year's Miss Teenage America finalist became a second runner-up in the Hawaii Junior Miss Pageant while MHS' student senate president was selected for the United States Senate intern program. Yet another senate member was nominated to the Presidential Classroom for Young Americans.
