The Black and Gold 1976
Exploration of Land, Sea, Air Waves Entice Environmental Enthusiasts
Operating from a new language lab with equipment transferred from Central Intermediate, licensed operators of the AMATEUR RADIO/ELECTRONICS CLUB communicated school happenings with other states and countries. Doing their part for the carnival, students from this club manned the public address booth, making announcements and dedications. As a project, they undertook the task of repairing the school intercom in May.
Early organization of activities resulted in an eventful year for some 35 capable members of the SCIENCE CLUB. A cruise aboard the Sea Transit in November sailed the members from Fisherman's wharf to Pearl Harbor. Delighting the students at Pohukaina Elementary School, the club helped in hosting a Christmas magic show and party. A trip to the Big Island during Easter vacation where they stayed at the beach house of adviser Mr. Art Kimura's parents climaxed the year of profitable activities for the Science Club.
The SCUBA, SNORKELING AND DIVING CLUB undertook many water related recreational activities to develop an awareness of scuba diving. In January many hours were spent on repairing their sail boat, which they used to explore the ocean ground around Ala Wai Yacht Harbor. In March, a diving expedition took place at Hanauma Bay. Most of the club activities covered diving and snorkeling tours and members often journeyed to the helicopter pad right off the Ilikai Hotel, to enjoy their diving projects.
An enthusiastic group of students of the SIERRA CLUB ventured up to Kawailoa in September to explore the flora and fauna of the island. Communicating with nature, the members along with president Mark Enomoto and advisers Mr. Carl Hansen and Mr. Michael Gaber journeyed to Laie, Palehua, Palika in Ewa and Moanalua Valley among their roster of activities.
