An essential phase of school life not to be overlooked, sports provided a meritorious outlet for individuals who desired worthy competition.
The opportunities in the athletics program at McKinley catered to a wide spectrum of interests with fourteen different areas of varsity competition sanctioned by the Oahu Interscholastic Association.
Many sportsmen devoted a great deal of time and effort to carefully developing their physiques and practicing long hours; others relished the camaraderie which athletics might have generated. This former undertaking may have accounted for the exquisite showmanship of an action packed year in sports.
