Boys Track - Girls Basketball

The Black and Gold 1977

Strength, agility stressed in track; hoopsters compete in bigger league

Boys Track

Daily practices helped boys' track team individuals improve their skills in running, high jumping, hurdling and throwing.

Practice meets during the springs were with the Aliis and Kalani at Aiea, the Falcons and Farrington at Kalani and with the Cougars and Kalani at Kaiser.

The Micks participated in the Kailua relays with Castle, Farrington, Kahuku, Kalaheo, Kalani and Moanalua during the regular season at Kailua field.

Other meets included the OIA district meet at Kailua, the Division Championships at Kaiser and the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Track Championships at Punahou.

Girls Basketball

Coach Jake Hoopai entered his third year of coaching girls' basketball with a few returnees and some outstanding new players to play for the Micks.

Preseason games with public and private schools helped develop dribbling and shooting skills in preparation for the regular season action.

The OIA has developed girls' basketball into one of the most popular sports among female athletes. A total of 20 teams from public schools competed in this year's competition.

Playoffs for the OIA were held on April 27 and 28 with the State on May 5-7.
