Jayvee Boys Basketball

The Black and Gold 1977

Jayvees rate best OIA record ever

Jayvee Basketball

The Jayve hoopsters, under new Head Coach Jacob Hoopai, moved from a 8-6 record last year to a 9-5 record in their best season since 1970.

The season opened with a victory over Kahuku 69-55, and a loss to Kalaheo 55-47. Victories over Farrington 76-51, and Kalani, 42-41, followed before a loss to Roosevelt 48-41. The Cubs ended their first round with a loss to Kaimuki 62-54, and a victory over Kaiser 69-49.

In the second round, the Micks lost the opener to Kailua, 49-37, Castle 60-46, and Kaiser, 61-41.

With the experience of the jayvees, the '77-'78 varsity team should have some good prospects in outstanding players such as Arthur Rosa, Guy Aleka and Wesley Nagao.

They ended the season with a second loss to Roosevelt, 61-58, and a win over Farrington, 71-64 ended the season.

Coach Hoopai throughout the entire season proved that experience was not needed to boast a winning season.

As for the Jayvee, with only a few freshman, it will be another year of rebuilding and hoping for new talent to come along.
