Music, Drama

The Black and Gold 1976

Music, Drama, Art Give Outlets to Self Expression

With boundless creativity, energy and talent, McKinleyites found an outlet for self expression and enrichment through an array of courses offered by the Fine Arts Department.

In the band and choir rooms, the art building and the drama room, students "let loose" their inventive talents and communicated their thoughts, emotions and imagination in one of these creative mediums.

Attempting to improve the quality and heighten the enthusiasm of band students, Wind Ensemble II and Stage Band were added to the present courses-Beginning Band, Symphonic I, Symphonic II and Wind Ensemble I. Long hours of practice and sectionals paid off as the Tiger band set off for the mainland in April.

Applying such skills as vocal projection, correct breathing and music reading, choir students presented concerts and assembly performances at McKinley. Music courses ranging from music theory to class piano provided students with a greater understanding and appreciation of music.

McKinley's "artists" put their creative hands and minds to work as they produced unique art work that reflected individual expression. Students enrolled in Basic Art, Ceramics, Weaving and Textile Design courses were exposed to the vastness and enjoyment of the art world.

Drama courses offered the opportunity to learn dramatic technique such as pantomine, body movement, improvisations and play structure.

Promising actors and actresses used acquired skills to audition for various McKinley Theatre Group productions.
