Pep Squad

The Black and Gold 1975

Exuberance, Spirit, Amity Aim Pep Squad to Coveted First Place

In preparation for the annual State Cheerleading Contest held at Kahala Mall, the '74-75 Varsity Pep Squad featuring six vivacious cheerleaders, five lovely songleaders, one pep chairman and two drummer boys, began practice in July.

Displaying their uniquely choreographed cheer routines with concinnity, they captured the well-deserved, coveted position of being the number one pep squad in the state. Pep squads representing various high schools throughout the island were judged on poise, choreography, and eye appeal.

For many people, summer was a time of rest, but not for the pep squad. In addition to the hours they put into practice, they worked at the 50th State Fair manning their own booth to raise funds for their September mainland trip with the football team.

The trip to San Francisco brought about many new experiences as they performed in the Galileo High School gym and at the game in freezing 40 degree weather.

Honored as the best pep squad in the state brought many responsibilities and invitations to perform at various events. They performed at the third annual Carol Kai Bed Race, a basketball tournament at the HIC, and on a local television show in April.

Selling ribbons, making rings, coaching class squads, going to various intermediate feeder schools to promote spirit, and participating in numerous pep rallies were a few of the infinite activities of this exuberant pep squad.
