'A funny thing happened to me on the way...' An exhibition of originality and an abundance of hidden talent combined for the performance of the hilarious 1976 faculty play, "A Funny Thing Happened to Me on the Way..." Written and directed by Mr. James Nakamoto, the plot centered on King Psoriasis (Mr. Charles Higa), his court of fools (a cast of 50 teachers) and a gloomy little prince who refused to smile (Mr. Sadao Odo).
Responsible for socials and teacher hospitality, the McKinley Teacher Association had 90 per cent membership this year. The first social gathering was a kick-off dinner at Yong Sing Restaurant. Some 80 people dined on a seven-course dinner followed by contests and drawings. November's faculty fun nite found teachers and their families engaged in an informal pot luck dinner followed by a turkey dart board, coconut turkey plucking, and other games which added for prizes.
Besides events honoring the retiring principal, the association sponsored the traditional May Luau.

MHS gears up for reaccreditation To provide McKinley's students with an insurance of acceptance into better colleges, a major concern of the administration and faculty this year was reaccreditation and rating from representatives of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in March. The WASC had the responsibility of rating an intensive nine months study of the school's programs made by administration and faculty on a scale of 1 to 5. This investigation covered the competency of the faculty, course goals, and objectives. During the last accreditation, McKinley received the maximum rating of five years. Overall chairman for McKinley's Accreditation Committee was Vice Principal Mr. L.F. Leu.
