Varsity hoopsters improve record to 4-10

Varsity Basketball

After posting a 3-10 record in pre-season, the Mick Varsity Cagers improved their season to 4-10 and ended up fourth in OIA's Honolulu District.

In previous seasons the Tigers had never had more than two wins since they joined the OIA.

Losses to Windward District powerhouses Kahuku, 91-64, and Kalaheo, 61-35, began the season. But the Tigers picked up their first win over Farrington, the eventual Honolulu cellars. Still no consistency prevailed with losses to District Champs Kalani, 36-28, and Roosevelt, 47-39.

Then two Tiger victims were Kaimuki and Kaiser and it looked as if the Tigers were on their way. But not so--they lost six consecutive games to Kailua, 60-44, Castle, 60-46, Kaimuki, 58-49, Kalani, 58-42, Kaiser, 69-56, and Roosevelt, 54-31.

Although the second round of competition proved disastrous, the Micks pulled off a win over Farrington, 75-59, in the season finale.

The 1977 team had great potential but had a disappointing season due to the inconsistency of the teams in the Honolulu District.

Hampered by no-shows, transfers, and personnel problems, a practically whole new staff showed good potential for coming years. First year Head Coach Glen Hookano should have no problem bringing an even better record next year.
