Comprehensive Electives

The Black and Gold 1976

Comprehensive Electives Enrich MHS Curriculum

Diversified elective courses opened an opportunity for exploration and development of personal interests. These courses allowed students to depart from compulsory subjects and seek individual enjoyment and knowledge in a variety of courses.

To promote the interests and awareness of languages, students were given the option to expand their cultural horizons through the Foreign Language Department.

Students could choose from a variety of foreign languages, including two years of French, Spanish, and Chinese. Japanese was offered for five semesters, and one year of conversation was available in Japanese and Chinese. The conversation courses stayed strictly on conversation and no writing.

Aiding the school by distributing information through different types of media were the Audio-Visual and Publication classes.

Videotaping, photography, working ditto machines and setting up projectors for classroom use gave AV students useful experience and training needed for those interested in the audio-visual field.

Trying to inform the entire students body of school events, the Newswriting classes maintained the production of the Daily Pinion and the Black and Gold.

Rushing to meet deadlines, yearbook staffers were faced with the seemingly endless tasks of compiling records in an effort to create a unique memory book for the bicentennial year.

Providing students with the opportunity to inquire, experience and develop an interest in library work, the Leadership Training also gave students the chance to use creativity in publicizing the services of the library and in suggesting improvements in the library system.
