Homecoming

The Black and Gold 1977

Homecoming

'Tiger Tracks' brings together old and newSpirit, memories, defeats and pride were all part of the 1976 Homecoming "Tiger Tracks." Planning began months before the final week, as the student body and alumni worked together to prepare for the annual fall festivities.

In the gym, packed "to the max" with enthusiastic supporters, the varsity pep squads, past and present, performed and displayed their undying Tiger spirit. Coronation of the queen and introduction of the court highlighted this Homecoming pep rally. Reigning over the celebrations were Queen Patti Matayoshi and King Mark Matsumoto.

A downpour of rain did not hinder the traditional bonfire which took place beside the bandroom, nor deter the turnout at what may become a new tradition -- a Homecoming dinner in the cafeteria.

The rain continued to fall at the game the next day, and again did not dampen the hopes and fight of the crowd. Colorful tapestries were parade around the stadium while the Taikas performed a special routine during the halftime festivities.

Victory seemed imminent until the final three minutes of the game when Farrington scored the last and deciding touchdown. The final score of 12-7 found many Tigers speechless and filled with mixed emotion, yet the predominant spirit of Homecoming and its meaning upheld the celebration mood.
