People, People, People

The Black and Gold 1975

A school would not be a school without its people, and McKinley fortunately did not lack its share of bright, youthful, talented persons.

Always ready for almost anything, the people, faculty and students alike, enjoyed and coped with the everchanging events of their world at McKinley unique. National pressures, already well into recession appeared to lighten at McKinley and the people themselves settled down by mid-year and accepted things as they were.

Although seniors welcomed the day of graduation, and juniors and sophomores looked forward to that hopeful day, many alumni returned, back to the scene where memories and friends could be found--where a portion of their lives would always be McKinley.

Intramurals

The Black and Gold 1975

Individuals, Intramurals, Females Gain Deserved Recognition To Round Out Sports Year

Rounding out a full year of sports at McKinley were several sparkling individual and team accomplishments.

Junior Tala Taito put on a strong showing in the State Golden Gloves Tournament before losing a decision in the finals. Despite the loss, Tala was chosen as one of the ten representatives from Hawaii to enter the National Tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee.

In the world of surfing, McKinley's Pat King finished third overall in the Junior Men's division of the Haleiwa Surfing Championships in March.

Boys' intramurals under the direction of P.E. instructor Joe Tom and girls's intramurals under Mrs. Jane Schroder took on wide dimensions in such sports as volleyball, basketball and bowling.

Increasing girls' interest in sports set a new definition for involvement. Playing in their own caliber, the McKinley girls developed unique skills and techniques.
